The international chemical sector has been working hard over the past year on an ambitious project: collecting and sharing Best Safety Practices (BSP) worldwide to enhance safety within the industry. This project, initiated by the Dutch chemical sector and supported by the International Foundation for Chemical Logistics (IFCL), is now nearing completion.

With the establishment of a structured platform, an initial step has been taken towards an international database where Best Safety Practices are made accessible and transparent for companies, researchers, and policymakers. The collected information is not only presented in an organized structure but also includes a concise summary in both Dutch and English. This ensures that valuable safety knowledge is widely shared and utilized.

Why This Initiative?

Many well-documented Best Practices already exist within the chemical sector. However, these often remain confined to national or industry-specific networks, preventing companies and organizations elsewhere from benefiting from proven methodologies. This not only results in unnecessary duplication of work and costs but can also lead to preventable safety incidents.

The platform www.bestsafetypractices.org provides a solution by unlocking international knowledge and creating a dynamic network of safety experts and research institutions. The shared knowledge fosters mutual collaboration and innovation, enabling companies to build on existing insights rather than reinventing the wheel.
